I bought an igloo for the babies to sleep in which is intended for gerbils, mice... This cuts down on the smell since the babies do not tinkle on the bedding since it is not in the open. This makes a huge difference!! It came from Petco or similar and cost about $4.

HI, I JUST BOUGHT A CAGE FROM YALL AT THE ARLINGTON EXPO DEC. 1-2. I'M JUST CURIOUS IS WHY YOUR WEBSITE SHOWS THE SAME 3 STORY FERRET CAGE FOR $120, BUT SOLD AT THE EXPO TO ME FOR $125. I THOUGHT ITEMS AT EXPOS HAD A LITTLE BIT OF A DISCOUNT. I HAD BOUGHT IT FOR MY MARSHALL FERRET NAMED "CHEVY" WHO IS ONLY 7-8 WKS OLD. IT WAS SO FUNNY TO SEE HIM TRY TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO GO UP AND DOWN EACH STORY, BUT I THINK HE LIKES IT VERY MUCH AND IS GETTING THE HANG OF IT. I WILL BE AT THE SAN ANTONIO EXPO DEC. 15-16, HOPE TO SEE YA THERE, JUST TO SEE YOUR CUTE LITTLE SUGAR GLIDER.

Hi, I just got through reading everything you have on your web site about sugar gliders and their care. my husband , youngest son and i were at the canton trades day yesterday and saw the gliders. Needless to say i love them and i think my husband does too. Ihave been missing my ferret since he died . He was well pampered and lived to be an old man of 10 years old. I have been wanting another but i think i have changed my mind and now want a glider i can take with me anywhere. I took my ferret everywhere but gliders are more compact in size. I hope to be able to purchase all i would need in the near future. I will be calling you when i do. Wonderful site!!

I just wanted to respond to the comments about Custom Cage Works selling gliders too young. I own a pet store, and have been using this company for many years. I know that CCW would NEVER sell a glider at "1-2 weeks OOP" even if begged and paid. I have been offered gliders at less cost from other breeders/wholesellers, but would not consider buying from any other source. My reputation is at stake, and I would rather pay a little more to get consistent quality animals. I have probably bought 75-100 gliders from CCW and have not had a single death in over a year with animals in my care. My success is mosly due to the quality animals that I receive, as well as the expert advice from Steve and Brian over the years. There is never 100% with any animal, but you can feel confident that if you purchase from CCW, you are getting the very best. Thanks! Michelle Smith; Mini S Exotic Pets.

Steve, everytime I have been around Sugar Gliders I always noticed the unique smell about them. I was reading your site in the Amimal Gallery - Sugar Gliders section and in the Common Asked Questions you mention that if they are taken care of in a certain way that this smell is diminished or goes away. I was glad to find that out. The next time I see you I want to talk to you about that some more. Good Site!

Steve, We met you at the pet show in Arlington last month. I held a sugar glider for about 1 1/2 hours that day. you answered so many questions for me and filled me with information. I did not plan on buying one that day and you still spent time with me to help better educate me on sugar gliders. I had one several years ago, which died on me,(not one from you!!!) so I decided to read alot and ask alot of questions before purchasing another one, but I know that this is the pet for me. I told you at the show that I will come back to the show in December at La Quinta in Arlington to purchase a glider and cage from you because you were so kind and helpful. I will be at the show, looking forward to doing business with you. Please email me with the show hours for Dec.1-2. Thank you again for all your help. Michele.

Isn't it sad how some people have to blame others for their mistakes and can't work things out without having to cause a scene. We just bought two of the most adorable sugar gliders from you several weeks ago. You were very helpful with several questions we sent you. So far we have had nothing but a very pleasant experience with your company and the sweet little babies we bought from you. The beautiful white "house" cage is very beautiful in my newly remodeled livingroom and several friends said they would be happy just to have a cage like it in their home. We will gladly recommend you and your company to anyone. Thank you.

Attention any potential sugar glider owners: DO NOT purchase a sugar glider from Steve Larkin or anyone from Custom Cage Works. They are selling gliders WAY too young. These animals are pulled from their mamas before she can feed them important nutrients and antibodies and before she can teach them important lessons (how to eat, etc.) There are other breeders around who are ethical, responsible, caring, etc. Please do your research on breeders BEFORE you buy a glider. Please don't make the same mistake I made. My joeys are on the verge of death thanks to Custom Cage Works.
An Advocate of Healthy Sugar Gliders <ccwStinks@unethicalbreedingpractices.com>
Somewhere, KS USA - Thursday, October 11, 2001 at 17:04:31 (EDT)

Response: To our valued customers:

Custom Cage Works never weans baby sugar gliders before 6-7 weeks of age, out of the pouch. In fact, we don't care if they stay with the mother longer. We wean them based upon development, not age. This development usually occurs in 6-7 weeks and not earlier.

A heat rock has never, to my knowledge, been responsible for hurting a sugar glider. They have, however, made thousands of gliders healthy, warm and happy. And to the people who would not have known how to keep them warm enough otherwise, the heat rock has saved their glider's lives. Before we started insisting on using heat rocks, people had no good method to insure their glider was warm enough. At that time, a good 10% of the buyers would call us because their glider was developing diarrhea. Temperature is the most important factor in your sugar glider's health.

We are one of the largest breeders of sugar gliders in the country and as you can see from the bulk of our guestbook signers, we have a great reputation for having extra sweet and healthy babies. This is not by accident. We work hard at it, and we know what we are doing.

Please notice that the coward who wrote the two comment below, did not give a return address, or sign them. She is mad because she bought a glider from us and it subsequently died. We broke our policy and offered to replace it. She however, decided to buy one from someone else and demanded her money back. We wouldn't do that, so now she is writing these messages. Her first threat was to say that she knew people high in the USDA and was going to give us trouble. I answered that we were, and always have been in good standing with them, and welcomed any inspections.

Our policy is not to remove negative comments from our guestbook, unless they are cranks or crackpots. Therefore I am answering these two totally baseless comments.

If they ever identify themselves, I will pursue a liable suit, because they are spreading lies about a conscientious company with dedicated employees. They had better be able to prove what they say.

There will always be an unsatisfied customer even though we try hard not to have any. Some people however, do not care for their animals properly, and we can't be responsible for that. We make our share of mistakes, but do our best to rectify them.

We appreciate your business, or future business, and promise to teach you how to properly care for the animals we sell, and offer continuous support in the form of information, availability, and fine products.

In the future, all negative comments not signed by a legitimate return address, will be deleted. If you have a real complaint, please let us know, but sign it so we can get with you and try to help you or correct our error.

Thanks to all of our loyal and potential customers.

Steve Larkin, Brian Bader, and all of our devoted employees.

How old are the sugar gliders you sell? Are you aware that a heat rock is potentially detrimental to the health of sugar gliders? Are you aware that you have sold many sugar gliders at 1-2 weeks oop when you should not sell that any earlier that 8 weeks oop? Are you aware that your breeding business is comparable to a puppy mill? Are you aware that your "Glider Grub" is total crap? People who hurt animals just to make a quick buck DISGUST ME! You will reep what you sow!

We just purchased our second sugar glider from you this past weekend. Its no surprise to us that we fell in love with our sweet "Carmel" so quickly. We have noticed pet shops in the Metroplex now selling sugar gliders, however they are either too old and not use to human contact or they just are not as pretty as the ones you breed. I purchased a male sugar glider from you in March at the Fort Worth Home and Garden Show. We have bonded and he goes everywhere with me. I am about to adopt 1 male and 1 female sugar glider from my aunt who bought them for her teenagers and they ended up not taking care of them. She has done well with the gliders but just can't take care of them by herself anymore. I need advice on introducing them to eachother and even if it is a good idea to have two males in the same cage. The sugar gliders that I am adopting are only 7 months old. So if you could help me and give me any information it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Steve and Brian, Well I have to Thank you for your knowledge and expertise in Sugar Gliders. I purchased one of your little ones at the Overland Park KS home show and just love her so much! I met another couple that had a booth at the show who purchased one the week before. They had "Cookie" with them at the home show and it helped me to see one that has been with their new owners for only a week. My little "Candy" has bonded with me and my daughter and we take her everywhere. We had trouble with diarrhea for a few days and want to Thank you for your help in getting that resolved too. I have to let you know that I purchased another glider from a pet store in Iowa (a friend brought it back for me). I don't think that glider has ever been handled. I hope we can calm him down so he makes a good pet for us too. I see now why spending a little extra money and getting the right glider is worth it. You gave me sooo much more insight and assistance.

I have some concerns, I noticed that you only responded to some people and that you didn't repond to the people whos pet died. Coustomer service is very important to me. I hope that you choose to replace the pets , rather than to lose a coustomer. maybe even a repeat.

I've now had my male sugar glider (2nd I've purchased from Steve and Custom Cageworks) since 2/17/01. Critter, as we named him, and the first, our female Piper, are getting along nicely and we're very happy to have them as members of our family. They are both very healthy and happy. Thanks again Steve..Critter and Piper thank you too. :0)

I have heard good things about this site and was referred here by Brisky Pet Products. I was and still am interested in buying a flying squirrel from you guys. If you could please email me with information about the normal pricing for one baby (I'll get a second down the line), this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance Steve.

Saw one of your aviary designs and would like to know approx. costs. It's in your custom cage gallary-avairies-aviary 12. You built it for a lady in Dallas. This is exactly what I want when I set up my aviary this fall. Any info. is appreciated.

I went to the Texas Reptile show in Arlington today and fell in love with a little female sugar glider. I plan to get there early tomorrow and purchase her. My only concern is, that the man I spoke with said that they are disease free, yet there are a couple of horror stories in your guestbook about them dying. Is there any way to detect illness before I buy her? Will your representative be honest with me about my sugar glider's condition? I hope everything works out... I sure do look forward to a healthy life with her.

Response: Thanks for your interest in our Sugar Gliders Cara. You can be pretty sure you won't have trouble keeping your Sugar Glider alive. We sell about 200 babies per month. In the last 18 months we have had only 5 or 6 of them die that I am aware of. It is extremely important that they be kept very warm, especially while they are babies. If not, they will almost surely get stressed and develop diarrhea and die, if not caught quickly enough. This is why we always provide a heat rock in our cage kit, and provide so much information about keeping them warm in our care sheet. We do everything we can to teach our customers how to properly care for their new pet, but after they leave our care we have no control over their new environment and care taking. I always try to provide my cell phone number in addition to our shop number, so that the customer can reach me for questions and advice. Please read our Return Policy

Even if we have had 10 die in the 18 month period mentioned above, that is less than 1/3 of one percent loss. That number would be much higher if we didn't care, and didn't try so hard to provide healthy babies and excellent follow up support. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Sincerely Steve Larkin

I purchases a wonderful male sugar glider from you at the Ft Worth Home & Garden Show. We have named him Tiny since he is so little. The first day he never came out of my shirt pocket. And now he is our new little companion. My son loves to watch him eat and play. He has been a great addition to our family. And we will be coming back to you soon to get a little girl. Thank you so much for taking your time and talking with us at the H&G Show. You made the addition a very comfortable and easy one. Thanks again. Julie

I'm wondering if you can give me some more info on your flying squirrels, I've read such great things about your animals in your guestbook and a friend of mine has gotten a sugar glider from you and was very happy with it. Do you ship them?

Great website. Would like to visit in person one day in the near future. We may be needing some cage trays custom made and in the future possibly more chinchilla cages. From what I see on the website it looks like you do quality work.

I have to say it was a plaesureable experience getting my sugar glider, Piper were calling her, from Steve..one of the nicest people I've met in a while. He made sure all my questions were answered, and I left fully prepared for Piper's well being. The cage (we got the $75 one) is of an excellent qaulity, surpassing any other animal enclosure I've personally delt with. I'll be going back very soon for a friend for Piper. Thanks Steve!

Custom Cage works is the best place ever!! I bought one female sugar glider then bought two more a couple of months later. Steve is the greatest, most down to earth man I have ever met and is extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of owning a sugar glider. It is an absolute pleasure to do business with him. I definitely recommend him to anyone interested in buying one or many. His sugar gliders are healthy, happy, and are sweet just like Steve. Thanks Custom Cage works for all my special memories with my gliders.. YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Love your website. When I get my tax check I am going to purchase a new cage for my sugar gliders. They need a little more room than the one I have now.

Well Steve, you came through again! I asked you to bring me the sweetest female glider you had and you did! I can't thank you enough, she is absolutely wonderful. I named her Audrey and for the first two weeks I slept on the couch so that she could sleep with me. Now the bond is unbreakable! I haven't even introduced her to my male glider yet....I want her all to myself. Anyway I'm ready for that fancy cage with the copper on it (in green), only the BEST for my Audrey!! So I hope your coming to Houston soon, I will meet you at that hotdog place again on I-45 & 1960 okay. Thanks again....Yall are the BEST! PS.and some glider gold if ya have it in yet.
