They are made of 2"x1" 14gauge galvanized wire with 1"x1/2" galvanized wire floors. The door is reinforced with 9gauge smooth galvanized wire and swings in so that the rabbit cannot force his way out by stressing the door. When the door is open, it automatically catches on the door hanger suspended from the top of the cage. The sliding dropping pan is strong and tight at the corners, and has a convenient handle for easy removal of the pan at cleaning time. Due to the way we make the door opening, you will not get your arms cut or scratched while working your rabbits.

These cages are available in many sizes, and several options are available for them. When selecting your cages from below, you will be able to choose any of the options available.

• The cage can be built using "Baby Saver Wire". Little baby rabbits can occasionally fall through the standard 2"x1" wire. "Baby Saver Wire" was designed to remedy this situation. It is 2"x1" wire but with the lower 4" being 1"x1/2" wire. This close weave keeps the babies safe from this problem.
  
  
• The standard wire used in the rabbit cages for the floor is 1"x1/2" 16gauge galvanized wire.  Two optional types of floor wires are available: First the floor can be made out of 1"x1/2" 16gauge PVC Coated wire. This wire is easier on the rabbit's feet and can help in preventing "sore hocks". The second option for the floor is 3/4"x3/4" 14gauge PVC coated wire. This wire is much stronger and will keep heavy rabbits from causing the floor to sag as much.  Note: The whole cage could be made of PVC Coated wire, but the rabbits are likely to chew on the cage bars and chew the coating off. This does not normally happen with the floors because of the close weave.
  

• Rabbits often have the bad habit, unless litter box trained, of lifting the tail and peeing out the side of the cage. To prevent this from happening, we offer litter guards as a cage option. They are 4" tall and are attached inside the cage to the two sides and the back wall. When peed upon, they direct the urine back into the dropping pan and eliminate a potential mess. The litter guards are available in both galvanized metal and stainless steel metal.

• In some cases, such as hanging rabbit cages with worm beds underneath, you would want the cage to have no dropping pans. The urine and the droppings drop directly into the soil in the worm bed. This along with the spilled food and coffee grounds if you want to add them, become the food for the worms. This is one of the neatest and simplest ecosystems. The worms will come to just below the surface of the soil and eat all of the droppings. In return they deposit on the surface their droppings. The worm castings as they are called, are among the very best fertilizers available. It is valuable as a crop to sell as well as to use in your own garden. While this is going on, you are also producing rabbits to sell or to eat, and producing thousands of additional worms to sell or use. When this system is in balance there is no smell, and there are no flies in the facility. The flies lay their eggs on the droppings and spilled food, but they are eaten as well by the worms. Normally, each morning the soil under the rabbit cage will be very level and all of the droppings will be gone and the surface will have a consistency similar to cornmeal. These are the worm castings. So, some people need cages without dropping pans, but most people will want to have a dropping pan. We offer the dropping pans in two versions, sliding pans, and outside pans. The sliding pans slide in and out under the cage. There is an extra layer of wire 2" below the floor for the pan to slide on. The sliding pan is 1 ¼" deep and has a convenient handle. The outside pan is 2" tall and is 1" larger than the cage so that the cage can sit into the pan. The pan is held to the cage by means of two springs and hooks. Both style pans can be provided in galvanized metal or stainless steel metal. Stainless steel is quite a lot more expensive, but will never rust out.
