 | DescriptionFor the person who wants to pamper their chinchillas, or just wants their cage to be a beautiful part of the house, this may be your choice. This cage, custom built for a couple in New York City, would look great in any room. Not only beautiful, but it is a very functional cage for chinchillas. Of course, it is made of the 1"x1/2" galvanized wire, and has the deep sliding dropping pan (in painted metal), the litter guards (in painted metal), a beautiful painted metal roof with two dormers and a chimney, and two painted metal boxes. One is a nest box and one is used as the dust bath box. As you probably know, chinchillas love to raise some dust. This box keeps most of it in the container, rather than on your floor. As you can see, it has three levels, the top one being solid for safety. To provide access to the upper level (the attic), we added a door on each gable end. The large front door provides easy access to the two lower levels. The cage is 36"x24"x48" and it sits on a stand that raises it 12" off of the floor.
Add a built-in hay rack to the front of the cage. Chinchillas need roughage, usually in the form of alfalfa hay. Our rack is built into the front of the cage, so you just push a handful of the hay into the rack via a hole in the outside of the cage. They pull and eat the hay through the wire rack, and most of the spillage occurs within the cage. They then can eat the spillage at their leisure.
