 | DescriptionThis breeder cage is very helpful for a small breeder with only a few chinchillas. It can be a good way to start out, because when you move up to a larger multiple breeder cage, these units are invaluable for isolation, babies, and excess unpaired adults.
The picture shown is a two compartment unit, but as in the larger breeder cage, it is also available in 4, 6, & 8 compartment versions. As in the larger unit, they can also be stacked on each other. A 4 compartment unit may be placed on a counter or table or shelf, but when you add a few levels you will find that one of our stands will make life easier and will save space.
In this case there is only two cages per level. This makes it possible to have the pass-thru in the dividing wall rather than to have a tunnel across the back of the cage. Since it is so difficult to add the pass-thru to a solid metal divider, we offer this cage with the wire divider only. It works just as the larger breeder units. The male can move back and forth between his two females, but due to the female collar, she cannot leave her compartment. Babies are protected by inserting the pass-thru shield when they are old enough to want to wander.
The 2 compartment unit is 36"x24"x15" and holds 2 females and 1 male. The 4 compartment unit is 36"x24"x30" and holds 4 females and 2 males. The 3 compartment unit is 36'x24"x45" and holds 6 females and 3 males. The 4 compartment unit is 36"x24"x60" and holds 8 females and 4 males.
Add a built-in hay rack to the front of the cage. Chinchillas need roughage, usually in the form of alfalfa hay. Our rack is built into the front of the cage, so you just push a handful of the hay into the rack via a hole in the outside of the cage. They pull and eat the hay through the wire rack, and most of the spillage occurs within the cage. They then can eat the spillage at their leisure. Options |
