The most important thing you can do to ensure a healthy, happy,
clean, and fluffy Sugar Glider, is to have a heat source in the
cage. Sugar Gliders want to be kept at 80 to 85 degrees, for optimum
comfort. Unfortunately, we do not keep our houses that warm. Therefore,
many Sugar Gliders are kept too cold, and they suffer for it. Just
the stress of being 10 degrees too cold for an extended time will
cause the glider to get diarrhea and as a result start getting dehydrated.
This sets up a situation where the glider is soiled and has odor
problems.
The best solution we have found for all of this is
to put a Heat Rock in the cage and put a tee shirt over it. A tee
shirt is large enough to cover it well, and make numerous folds.
The shirt will hold the heat in and the glider will find the perfect
temperature to sleep in. When he is up and playing, he will go back
to the warmth when he needs to to regulate his temperature. Since
stressing the heat rock, we have nearly eliminated the problem of
diarrhea among our customers babies.
